Donald Tusk thanked Minister LeszczynaOn Thursday, an official ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, during which President Andrzej Duda announced changes to the composition of the Council of Ministers. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the changes the day before. During the event, Prime Minister Tusk expressed special gratitude to Izabela Leszczyna, the outgoing head of the Ministry of Health, noting her contribution to meeting "the need for human safety, the safety of every Polish family."
In his speech, Donald Tusk highlighted Izabela Leszczyna's contributions to public health. The Prime Minister emphasized that thanks to the Minister's direct involvement and the in vitro procedure, which was "questioned by many," we have and will have thousands of children born and thousands of happy Polish families. He called it "a matter of life," stating that "nothing can be more impressive than the work of the Minister, Madam Minister, which produces such results, the lives of new people." The Prime Minister also mentioned the "tears of emotion and joy of all those parents whose young children affected by rare genetic diseases" survived thanks to Leszczyna's decisions, calling this the "greatest reward" for which no one came to the government.
Tusk also thanked Izabela Leszczyna for improving women's sense of safety in hospitals, which he called her personal achievement. He stated that "despite the legislative powerlessness, we know what we owe to her in this matter," and "today, Polish expectant mothers feel much safer in hospitals." Although the law on abortion has not been amended, "the climate surrounding termination of pregnancy has changed." This is attributed to Izabela Leszczyna, who "firmly believes that in certain situations, a woman has the right to an abortion" and has threatened financial penalties to facilities that prevent women from exercising this right.
Politicians have spoken outFormer Deputy Minister of Health and Minister of Digital Affairs Janusz Cieszyński also shared his thanks on social media.
"You took responsibility for a ministry that, for politicians, is the ministry of last resort. You worked until the very end, in accordance with your vision. And for your hard work – respect. Anyone who hasn't been to Miodowa 15 will never understand," wrote the former deputy health minister under the PiS government.
There was also a statement by Katarzyna Sójka , former Minister of Health, currently an MP:
"Izabela Leszczyna is leaving her position as minister. Officially, according to Donald Tusk, she has done a great job, but in practice, she has left a huge mess, which patients are experiencing. Patients are waiting in the longest lines to see doctors in over a decade, and they are not included in drug programs because they have serious illnesses," she said.
"Minister Leszczyna left us with enormous financial chaos in hospitals, with enormous debts, with enormous financial destabilization. She left us with enormous chaos in the National Health Fund (NFZ) and with an unsigned National Health Fund plan. She leaves us with restrictions on inclusion in drug programs. She leaves us with cancer patients, from whom she deprived PLN 4.2 billion from the medical fund for large programs across Poland. She left us with a lack of cooperation with experts, left us with a lack of decisions on important and necessary matters. She left us with no important reforms that would bring patients closer to good health care. We will be undoing the mess she left behind for years," emphasized Katarzyna Sójka.
